| Kids who lie are sometimes afraid of receiving negative consequences. You might give him a one-month-introductory-offer to "truth telling." Tell him that for one month only - and mark this on the calendar for him - he will never receive a punishment for anything he confesses to. In fact, you'll let him know how pleased you are for telling the truth and he may receive the occasional reward for honesty (be sure to give him prizes during the month at random, unpredictable intervals). Let him know that when the month is over, you will only give mild negative consequences (give him some examples of what you mean by "mild") as long as he tells the truth. The only time he will receive a severe consequence is if you discover that he has, in fact, lied. Be patient with this young man. He is already in a bad habit and it may take him a couple of weeks to get used to the new regime. Sarah Chana
