| A lot of mothers suffer intensely when their kids move out of the home - whether this is a permanent move like setting up one's own apartment or getting married, or a temporary move like going to college or traveling for an extended period of time. Dads may feel the loss as well. Parents who have had very loving, close and fun relationships with their adolescents (and yes, there are lots of folks in this position!), go through a true period of loss and grieving when these young people move on into their own lives. Parents have not only enjoyed the relationship with their youngster, but they have also put everything of themselves into it. Parenting is such an intense activity. Moms and Dads willingly sacrifice their sleep, their free time, their personal goals and more in order to raise their kids. They give invest all their resources - physical, financial and emotional into these young people. They would give their lives for them if necessary. So now, when the product of all this intense giving gets up and goes, the parents normally experience both pride and grief. The grief can come as a shock to them. There is a Bach Flower Essence called Walnut that helps people who are going through life transitions like you are. Depending on your personality, there may be other helpful Bach Flowers as well. As a first step, I would recommend consulting a Bach Flower Practitioner. If that doesn't ease your sleeplessness and heartache within a couple of weeks, then do get some professional counseling. Sometimes emotions are complicated and can begin to interfere with our functioning. Counseling and sometimes medication can help restore equilibrium. So don't just suffer. There are things you can do to move through this transition with less pain and more peace.
