| The National Sleep Foundation says that children between the ages of 5 and 12 need 9 to 11 hours of sleep. Your kids are sleeping within that range (albeit it the lower part of the range). Since there are individual differences in each child, the best indicator of sufficient sleep is whether the child gets up fairly easily in the morning and whether he or she functions properly at school and at home (i.e. crabby mood can indicate sleep deprivation!). If your kids seem productive, energetic and happy, then they can go to bed at 10 p.m. Sarah Chana
