While protein is an extremely important nutrient, few people in western countries are actually protein deficient. Your daughter may not like some of the more substantial sources of protein, but it is not impossible for you to provide other sources in her diet. Grains, especially whole grains contain protein. Check the food labels on bread and pasta and try to buy the ones that have more protein. Consider using a protein powder to add to foods that she is willing to eat. Protein powder works well in hot cereals, smoothies, muffins, and healthy cookies. Legumes such as chickpeas, white beans, and split peas are good sources of protein. Nuts and seeds have smaller amounts but can also be included in her diet. Try keeping a food diary to see whether she is getting protein in any form. If she seems not to be and you are truly concerned, you may want to discuss the issue with your pediatrician or a nutritionist.
